Those machines have been rock solid, and when they began to get harder to find, I decided to go with the "newer" version. Sadly, "new" is NOT improved. The newer version cannot hold a candle to the prior version - it is flimsier, has a less intuitive interface, shoddy build quality, and requires a more expensive toner cartridge that is not compatible with the older models. Moreover, the "new" toner cartridge runs out of toner much sooner than the older ones - probably by design. After less than 2 months of very light use, the ADF (automatic document feeder) ceased to work. There is a reason this machine is so inexpensive - the 4350d was inexpensive and a great value - this one is just cheap. I would also consider the Canon MF4350d. I mentioned in my blog [...] that using the Canon 104 cartridge will probably be cheaper per page than the Canon 128 cartridge. As of July 2011 you can still get the Canon MF4350 at Amazon.
